Where we’ve been
Church of the Valley began in 2015 when Pastor Justin and Amber Bindel moved to Salt Lake City to plant a church, starting with a house church in their Sandy basement and growing into Ekklesia, meeting at the Salt Lake Arts Academy in August 2015.
Over the next several years, the church moved through a string of temporary homes — a charter school in Murray, a movie theater at the Gateway, virtual gatherings during COVID, an outdoor season at Wheeler Park, and a stretch in a church gym on the East Bench. In fall 2021, the church found its current home in Sandy, a former grocery store space, and began meeting there in December 2021. The name changed from Ekklesia to Church of the Valley in spring 2022.
In 2023, The Bindels announced their departure to Texas, leading to a leadership search that brought Pastor Boyd Bettis on as lead pastor in spring 2024.
Where are we headed
●
Here's what that means for you and me, we are hopeful for these three things:
Knowing the depth of God's love and the gospel.
Making a difference for eternity by making disciples.
Seeing God bring a gospel awakening to our entire state, as people meet Jesus in a real way.
●
Our Vision:
Church of the Valley exists to know the love of God and multiply disciples as God brings Gospel Awakening to all of Utah.
●
Our vision is driven by three passages of scripture: Matthew 28:18-20, Ephesians 3:14-21, and 2 Peter 3:9.
What we believe about
the Bible determines everything.
●
We are theologically grounded by the Bible and driven by our vision
Our values
●
We put Jesus at the center of all things
Colossians 1:17 — “And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.“
●
We trust the Bible is our guide
Mark 2:4 — “And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay.”
●
We do whatever it takes to reach
one more for Christ
Hebrews 4:12 — “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
●
We joyfully celebrate God’s grace
Philippians 4:4 — “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.”
●
We pray hard and live in anticipation
Ephesians 3:20 — “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,”
●
We inspire with hospitality
and honor
Romans 12:10 — “Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.”
●
We are better together
John 13:34-35 — “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
●
We plant deep roots
Psalm 92:13 — “They are planted in the house of the Lord; they flourish in the courts of our God.”
